AN EXPONENT refers to the number of times a number is multiplied by itself or the base is multiplied by itself.

For example, 4 raised to the power 3 is written as : 43
which means: 4 x 4 x 4 = 3 times 4 = 64

Thus , this expression 4 x 4 x 4 can be written in a shorter way using EXPONENTS

THE POWER in the EXPONENT represents the number of times that we want to carry out the multiplication operation.
Eg. In exponent 43, 3 is the power of 4
ie. We shall multiply 4 three times
