What makes a software developer "happy"? Is it simply delivering on time? Is it having bug-free code? Or is it just the paycheck at the end of the month?
Software development is a unique and particular activity, which is why it's so difficult for us to understand and categorize. It has engineering and scientific characteristics, but also artistic ones, and it's precisely this latter aspect that is most neglected, yet has the most significant and lasting impact on the happiness and psychology of software developers.
In this talk, we'll discuss topics that we tend to minimize or completely deny in software development. We'll talk about the beauty of what we build, its aesthetics, and therefore the "art of software development," because yes, where there is beauty, there is art.
