The difference a boost can make is staggering when it comes to heavy music, and when you’re boosting an amp that already doesn’t need one/has enough gain, the effect is staggering. One’s like getting clobbered with an 8 Pound Sledge, the other’s like having a Jackhammer split granite over your skull. Both crushing, just used in different contexts.
