11 - Compression dressing
To be performed:
• Presentation to the patient
• Identity verification (patient identification)
• Proper patient positioning
• Verification that all necessary equipment is present
• Explanation of the reason for the procedure
• Explanation of the risks of the procedure
• Explanation of the procedure procedure
• Obtaining the patient's verbal consent
• Hand disinfection with an alcohol-based hand rub
Technical characteristics of the procedure:
• Support the affected limb
• Check distal circulation (capillary refill, distal pulses, skin temperature) before applying the dressing
• Place a roll of dressing/gauze on the wound (a sterile dressing can be applied before the gauze roll)
• Apply a strong bandage, such as an Elastoplast, compressing the gauze roll, resting on a firm surface
• Check distal circulation if a limb is compressed (capillary refill, distal pulses, skin temperature) after applying the bandage
