5 - Simple skin suture
To perform:
• Presentation to the patient
• Identity verification (patient identification)
• Proper patient positioning
• Verification of the presence of all equipment (needle holder and dissecting forceps)
• Explanation of the reason for the procedure
• Explanation of the risks of the procedure
• Explanation of the procedure procedure
• Obtaining the patient's verbal consent
• Verifying the absence of contraindications to the procedure (vascular or nerve injury, infection, joint or open wound, absence of allergy to local anesthetics)
• Hand disinfection with hydroalcoholic solution
Technical characteristics of the procedure:
• Preparation of the table covered with a sterile drape with the suture kit,
• gauze pads, suture thread, and a dressing
• Donning of personal protective equipment: gloves, mask,
• surgical cap, protective eyewear
• Wound disinfection: 4-step cleansing
• Inspection and exploration of the wound
• Suturing the wound
o Begin at Level of the wound corners, Separated stitches, Regularly spaced, Close-set edges
• Cut the sutures with scissors (sufficient suture length for removal by a nurse)
• Irrigate the skin with an antiseptic solution
• Dry the wound
• Apply a sterile dressing
• Dispose of needles, blades, and sharps in a designated yellow sharps container before disposing of the surgical drapes
• Check tetanus vaccination status
