Abstract: In this workshop we’ll build a dApp from scratch using GraphQL. The dApp will begin its life as a humble interface to a smart contract using our in-house framework, and then become supercharged with a Graph Protocol Subgraph. Along the way we’ll discuss our rationale for using (and abusing) GraphQL, and what the present and future holds for GraphQL and Ethereum.
The dApp we build will be based on the new PoolTogether Pods dApp launched for ETHDenver. The architecture of this dApp is the result of many iterations of refinement, so we’re excited to discuss our insights and show off our framework “Tightbeam”.
First we’ll outline some of the challenges and complexities dApp builders face when reading from the Ethereum blockchain and how we overcame them.
Next we’ll bootstrap a fresh dApp that interfaces with the ETHDenver Pod smart contract.
We’ll supercharge the dApp by writing a Graph Protocol Subgraph to view data.
Finally, we’ll finish by reviewing the state of Ethereum client support for GraphQL.
