Hurghada is a resort city in the Red Sea Governorate of Egypt. It is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations and has been nicknamed The City of Peace. The city has been developed from a fishing village into a major resort area. This was mainly due to its beautiful beaches, which are considered among the most beautiful in the world, and its proximity to other historic sites like St. Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai, Quseir Amra, Ras Mohamed National Park and Mount Sinai itself. Hurghada is also considered as a major starting point for visits to the Mount Sinai Monastery. The old city of Hurghada is home to numerous hotels, shops, cafes and restaurants. It has an international airport with several flights daily from Egypt's capital Cairo. Hurghada was founded by Egyptian fishermen who settled in the area following their discovery of rich fishing grounds in the Red Sea .Hurghada is well known for its diverse coral reefs, which are home to many types of tropical fish and manta rays.
