East Rockaway and Hurricane Sandy
Film Teaser #2 - East Rockaway and Bay Park Homeowners
In October of 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit Long Island. Waterside communities were severely hit by the super-storm's surge. The Southern-Nassau County village of East Rockaway was uniquely and drastically hit by the storm in great part because of the presence of the Mill River watershed which runs along the eastern border of the village. Valuable landmarks, buildings, businesses, and residences are located along this river including East Rockaway High School, Rolling River Day Camp, the East Rockaway Boat Marina, The Fishery (restaurant), and hundreds of residential homes. This is a teaser to a documentary about Mill River, East Rockaway, and how the area has been changed as a result of the storm. The film is not really about what happened during the storm, but instead, it is about the community and how Mill River is a reflection of the East Rockaway community.
This is a film teaser I produced for my Projects in Documentary course (RTVF 281C) at Hofstra University as a part of the MFA Documentary Studies and Production Graduate Program. I am producing the full-length (54 minute) documentary this Summer of 2013 with a hopeful release in the Fall of 2013. Enjoy the trailer!
