I have been reading Marie Kondo’s book “the life changing magic of tidying up” and I wanted to share my experience with it so far! Clutter can cause so much anxiety in stress in a persons life.
Clothes (including purses, shoes, and jackets):
This video is mainly the first category, clothes, which I had ALOT of! You take ALL your clothes and pile them on the bed-this took me all day because there were alot I had to try on since I couldn’t really decide if it sparked joy or not. Some over 15 years old! I threw out most , but there were alot of clothes that were in such good condition that they can be donated to charity. The phrase you use to decide what to keep or what to discard is, “does it bring me joy.” Sometimes this is challenging but the more you work through it, the easier it will become.
Books:
I was surprised to see how many books I really do have! I piled them on the floor and went through them. Many are going in the trash-some were half read and that was years ago. Time to let go. Many will be donated and I have a handful to keep. Just the thought of not feeling stressed with a fleeting thought of, “oh that book is still in there half read” has already helped me feel more at ease.
My thoughts so far on this method, do it-it’s tiring and may bring up alot of emotions but it’s SO worth it for your mental health and well being!
Stay tuned for the rest-papers is next, then komono (miscellaneous items)
