Starting August 25, 2025, Shopify will require all its customers to switch to the new version of their checkout, called Checkout Extensibility. The Checkout.liquid file will become obsolete. At the same time, many applications are beginning to comply with this new procedure and will require merchants to update to the new checkout before 2025.
This new version of checkout extensibility removes the "Additional Script" field from the order confirmation page. Until now, this code space was used to push all Google Ads tracking on Shopify. Now, we are required to use a new tool offered by Shopify called "Customer Events" or "Shopify Pixel." This system does not use the same language as previous scripts and makes integrating Google Tag Manager particularly complex for non-experts.
In this video, I will show you in detail how to install Google Ads tracking for Shopify using Google Tag Manager and Shopify's Customer Events. We will set up tracking that reports a pre-tax value excluding shipping costs to Google Ads. We have also set up advanced conversion tracking with all the data being sent.
