This is just for fun, no this doesn’t take confounding factors like points into account. Yes it is statistically significant. We could also account for the fact that not every team rebound is attributed to a player, so we could instead just use the sum of player rebounds for each team, rather than the team rebounds from the box score. Using just offensive rebounds may give different results as well!
In the 2024 WNBA season, there have been 14,189 team rebounds but only 8,461 assists! 📊 Statistically, an assist boosts a team’s chance of winning more than a rebound, based on logistic regression. For a team with a 50% chance to win, a rebound increases the odds to 52.7%, but an assist raises it to 55.8%! 🏀 If you’re a player, focusing on assists might just be your best bet (jk).
