KIKIISUN : A Sit Down
KIKIISUN is a self-taught artist born in Queens in 1999 and raised in Long Island NY. She paints vibrant surrealistic completing characters with psychedelic-like backgrounds. Her use of color is an essential aspect of her creative process. “My paintings take on surrealism with a play of abstraction and expressionism, what interests me the most is how colors interact and how they can play a big part in the overall mood, along with people and how their culture and environment influence the perception of the world and themselves through the idiosyncratic backgrounds I create within my paintings”. KIKIISUN's intentions have always been to challenge the norm and create things from the source of self but also as a voice for many other alternative individuals, learning and practicing the rules to break them into a mean meaningful thought-provoking process, her paintings represent turmoil, mental and emotionally struggles as a young black women.
" I want to create art that you don't see when you're flipping through an art history book, I want to bring something contrary and regenerated. Although I feel art is subjective many artists stay between the lines of what is considered marketable, as artists we must create to bring the unheard voices to the forefront and break down the idea of what modern contemporary art truly is." the paintbrush is in your hands so what will you do with it.
