AU: In the deepest levels of the Dungeon Meshi dungeons, ancient rumors circulated about creatures that ordinary adventurers had never encountered—*beings that supposedly devoured adventurers who dared to explore the darkest regions.* These monsters were known as Oni. With each soul consumed, it was said that the Oni grew stronger, absorbing the life energies of their victims and increasing their abilities.
As time passed, these stories became mere legends. “Oni? Just stories to scare children!” — some said, scoffing at the warnings. But, despite the disbelief, no one ever returned from the deepest regions of the dungeon, and the legends about the Oni remained as shadows of the past, hovering over those who ventured in search of glory.*
