【 Guided Reading Practice (v.1) 】
■ This app currently only lets you press "Next" and "Back" buttons to display a smallest meaningful chunk of words at a time both in English and Japanese. This is meant to assist Japanese ELLs think in English word order while they read in English. Many intended features are still missing (due to lack of my knowledge and skill in Java and Android app development), but they will be added in the future versions. ■
【About me】
Last week, I began creating the Android app that I would be able to actually use for my own research in the near future. It's still at a very primitive stage of development, so I'm going to call it version 1.0.
Up until only 2 months ago, I had no knowledge of Java and Android SDK, so while it may look pretty primitive, it's a pretty big accomplishment for me. What I had to do to get here was A LOT. A few days after I began learning Android app development, I hit plateau because of my lack of knowledge of Java programming language, so I had to study Java really fast. Then, I had to learn how to use Android SDK libraries for coding. I'm still learning all the basic methods, Classes, and techniques, but they are not too difficult to grasp, but just like foreign language learning, just because I can understand them easily, it doesn't mean that I can apply them easily to actually create something good.
Finally, it's pretty exciting knowing that I will be able to be good at it eventually. Glad I chose this platform. ;-)
