Words at the right time

I woke up one morning with the beginning words of this song in my mind:

"Make me, o Lord, to be silent, when it's time to be silent,
and make me, o Lord, to speak, when it's time to speak." ... and then it became this song.

It is not easy to stand up and speak against injustice, racism and hatred, but sometimes it just has to be done. Plato said: "The price good people pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men." This is so true. We must not leave things just go, because "the indifference of good people makes bad things happen." The holocaust started not with gas chambers. It started when people stopped caring and made lines between "us" and "them" with intolerance and hate speech.

There's so much going in our world, so let us not be fooled by the public opinion.

Words of the song:
Make me, o Lord, to be silent,
when it’s time to be silent.
And make me, o Lord, to speak,
when it’s time to speak.

Refrain:
The indifference of good people
makes bad things happen. (2x)

A word spoken at the right time
is like fruit of gold set in silver.
But often we are so frightened
and turn a blind eye.

Refrain:
The indifference of good people
makes bad things happen. (2x)

I’ve heard that speaking is silver,
and also that listening is gold,
but we are afraid to stand up,
defend those without voice.

Refrain:
The indifference of good people
makes bad things happen. (2x)

It started not with gas chambers.
It started when people stopped caring
and made lines between us and them
with intolerance and hate speech.

Golden apples in a silver bowl
are words said at the right time. (2x)

Make me, o Lord, to be silent,
when it’s time to be silent.
And make me, o Lord, to speak,
when it’s time to speak.
