Phototropism is the growth of plant in response to a light stimulus.
Auxins (Plant hormones) are synthesised in the tips of the shoots. In presence of strong directional light, auxins diffuse away from it, towards the shaded side. Auxins cause cell elongation and increase the growth of cells in meristem. So it cause shaded side to grow and elongate faster than the side towards light.
