we have to talk about Emily in Paris… again
Emily in Paris Season 2 had great potential of becoming a comfort series, if it weren't for the ignorance, hurtful stereotypes and Ukrainian caricatures. Unlike Emily in Paris (pronounce as Paree) we do not live in a fantasy. And although a world of luxury and abundance may seem attractive at first glance, all the other problematic aspects of the series are very off-putting and need to be discussed. In this video we look at the the introduction of two new worse characters: Alfie and Madeline, so that Emily would seem less problematic. We look at the hurtful and dangerous stereotype of a Ukrainian woman. We also look at the costuming, where it worked and where it didn't, and the development (or better to say: the lack of development) of the characters.
