What is a Rotunda?
A rotunda is the circular space in a building with a dome ceiling. The term rotunda is also often used as a reference to the dome itself regardless of the room it is placed in.
Rotundas are sometimes seen in religious buildings, entertainment venues, and government buildings. Some of the most well known rotundas are The Pantheon, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Villa Rotonda, and the U.S. Capitol.
