Why Did THESE Lizzo Singles Underperform?
Though new to the industry, Lizzo scored three Grammy Awards at the 2020 Ceremony, earned a Guinness World Record and has given us several hidden gems and big hits.
As with any artist though, not every song they put out can be a hit. Some are very fortunate when they debut, climbing the charts every month. Others may have competition, a poor rollout or no interest from listeners.
To anticipate “Cuz I Love You”’s follow up, “Special”, due on July 15th of this year, let’s take a look at what singles Lizzo has put out that haven’t done too well, and see what that reasoning could be.
Given her lead off her forthcoming album really didn’t pack a punch on the charts, we’ll also talk a bit about what we could expect for that album’s performance, as Lizzo doesn’t have a ton of singles out.
To make my conclusions on why some singles didn’t chart, I’m going to look at contextually where Lizzo was in her career, what songs may have been on the charts competing, and give some speculation. If you have your own insight, I’d love to hear it.
