Missouri Gun Laws Explained
At the end of September, MU Professor Royce Barondes filed a lawsuit against the university. He claims the university's rules against guns on campus violate his constitutional rights to carry a concealed weapon.
The basis for the lawsuit lies in the Second Amendment Preservation Act. The law, which Missouri passed in 2014, requires courts to use “strict scrutiny” when examining issues about the Second Amendment. The government must prove there is a compelling state interest behind laws that restrict gun rights and that those laws are narrowly tailored to achieve the result.
