If you get "dead" or "injured" by the stairs - don't rush to respawn at medical center. Just wait a couple of minutes and the character will get up eventually. Game doesn't communicate it clearly, but your character didn't "die", but become unconscious.
Usually it happens when switching "rooms" due to desync or/and in bad weather conditions.
