How to do Lattice Multiplication
Hi parents and teachers! If your students are struggling with multi-digit multiplication strategies, this method could really help! Let’s go over the steps to set up a two-digit by two-digit multiplication problem using lattice multiplication! I’ve also heard this method called the “slide method” and the “hill method”. Have you heard it called by other names? If so, please drop it in the comments! This method does take a bit longer than the standard algorithm for multiplication, but it’s a great alternative for students who really struggle with the standard algorithm. I really like this lattice multiplication because it gives students the visual cues and scaffolding they need.
