WhatsApp is Exporting Your Data: Elon Musk [May 2024]
Last week, Elon Musk said WhatsApp of exporting user data by saying:
“WhatsApp exports your user data every night, some people still think it's secure.”
With over 185 million followers on X, Musk's words echoed across the internet, shaking the very foundation of one of the biggest messaging platforms- WhatsApp.
WhatsApp boss Will Cathcart replied to Musk. “We take security seriously and that's why we end-to-end encrypt your messages. They don't get sent to us every night or exported to us.”
Yann LeCun - artificial intelligence chief at the parent company, Meta - has also weighed in, using more industrial language in his X post attacking Musk's claims.
Not only this, he expanded this debate, to Threads- which is also Meta’s product and a competition to “X”, by accusing Musk of making contradictory and unrealistic claims about artificial intelligence and "spewing conspiracy theories" on his own social media platform.
