Christmas is a festival that celebrates
the birth of a child in a manger
a child born into poverty
a tribal child, an Asian child,
a child of a migrant, child of a daily wage earner
a child refugee, a child born in a conflict situation
a child subject to persecution, a child born in conflict
a child who did not enjoy healthcare at birth
A birth that was celebrated by shepherds,
outcastes, mystics and even animals,
But a birth that was opposed by rulers and policymakers
who feared that this child would disturb the peace
by empowering the poor and the unheard.
Let us redefine Christmas as a festival
that emphasises the genuine inclusion and empowerment
of ALL (PRATYeK in Hindi)
not just on the 25th of December
but on each day of new year.
PRATYeK envisions a world in which
every child will stand up and ensure
every right,
for everyone.
