I always feel that when it comes to product photography and especially lifestyle pics, the image needs to draw attention without feeling staged. There is a fine line when it comes to styling lifestyle product photography to make it look appealing and make it feel authentic, relatable, and easy to consumable.

So today I want to talk about 5 tips for better lifestyle product photography. And how you can use these 5 tips to up your photo game and bang out the best shots for your clients.

Roll intro!

So first we need a product. And my friends at planet world were kind enough to send me some of their products to test out. The Sonos Roam and the Sonos Ray Speaker.

Now that we have our product, let’s jump into the tutorial…

First of all. Lifestyle photography is in a nutshell “in-use” or “in-context” photography. I sometimes believe that if you approach product photography in a good way you can create ideas for the consumers, making it easier and more desirable. And less forced.

Today I reveal 5 secrets to producing better product lifestyle images. The first thing you can focus on to get more relatable images when it comes to lifestyle shots is natural lighting. It immediately gives you the feeling and the vibe that this can be imagined in my house, in my hands. It doesn’t feel like this unobtainable thing. It also usually shows your product in it’s most natural form and the form the consumer will receive it. Careful for direct sunlight though, you don’t want too much dark contrast when using natural light.

The second tip is to focus on textures & colours. Any textures that might bring out the product. These textures must be relevant for the product in use. This can be in the form of ingredients or colors that compliment the vibe that you want to create in your work. This can be used as a psychological technique to boost the idea you are planting for the consumer.

The third tip would be to create a vibe. You want to create an idea for your consumer. In most cases humans don’t know what they want. In many cases people are dependent on marketeers and companies to tell them what they want. So you need to create the mood, the idea, you need to plant the story with your products.

Yo, hit up that subscribe button if you find this useful. There is a lot more for you to look out for.

The fourth tip would be to make use of negative space. You see it looks awesome when you have a styled photo of a product but it’s missing a core element like a CTA or maybe a phrase that will just complete the idea the photo is going for. Negative space allows for more design work to be done on your photo and ultimately be used as an awesome social pic

The 5th tip would be to make use of props and models. Sometimes the emptiness isn’t relatable. It’s not memorable and feels forced. But when you have fine balance between props. Models and making use of body parts to place focus on products you immediately break that 4th wall between the consumer and the image. The consumer can imagine themselves using the product and the disconnect is eliminated.

Thanks for tuning in. Remember if you want to get ahead in life with your pursuits you have to be bold and you have to be brave.
