Late 1940s: World War II was ending and motor racing competitions, suspended for years, were returning. The 24 Hours of Le Mans would take a while to return – a decade since the 1939 edition.
And in 1949, came the first prototype known to have raced at La Sarthe: the DB2 model from the British Aston Martin, then under the control of David Brown, who had incorporated Lagonda into Aston in 1947.
Designed by Frank Feeley, the DB2 would only go into production in 1950, being sold until 1953 (only 411 units were made). This pre-production model appeared at Le Mans in the race where Ferrari triumphed for the first time, with the 166 MM "Red Barchetta" driven by Luigi Chinetti and Lord Selsdon (Peter Mitchell-Thomson).
The duo, registered with number #27, finished seventh overall and third in the Sport subclass up to 2 liters, in a car entered by Arthur W. Jones and driven by himself and his compatriot Nick Haines. The duo also finished eighth in the Performance Index classification.
