AMD's High Bandwidth Cache Controller enabled their Vega-based graphics cards with HBM2 VRAM to use system RAM instead, allowing users to effectively turn an 8GB GPU into one with 12GB, 16GB or even more. With DDR4, the benefits of more VRAM in modern games were often outweighed by its lower performance and other bottlenecks; does DDR5 fare any better?
