Royal Mail 325013, 325005 & 325002 pass Hemel Hempstead - 22/08/2023
News that suddenly came about but the cheeky scrubs at Royal Mail decided to pull the final service date forwards from 10th October to 20th September 2024, much the ire of train fans and mail enthusiasts across the country. No fanfare, no message, just get rid of this service because "reee trains cost money!!!!12!1!!!!!!!1!!" and of course, Royal Mail love doing anything but improving their service or spending money so yeah...
This is really sad news since the mail train started around 200 years ago and has been an integral part of mail freight on the WCML and ECML even in the last years, especially since a 12 car 325 holds more parcels than a truck ever could. I doubt the 325s were a lost cause too. That's what refurbishment and upkeep is for.
I've held a big of a soft spot for these units due to their unique duties as well as being dual voltage, something underutiilised now obviously. I'm uploading this video I filmed of one last year in memoriam. Not the best lighting on it, I apologise. Hopefully they get picked up by someone else to do something with.
