Hurricane Francine made landfall early Wednesday evening in Louisiana.
Francine, which developed in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane Wednesday afternoon before making landfall in southern Louisiana, the National Hurricane Center said. A hurricane falls within that classification when its winds are 96 mph or higher.
Francine made landfall in Terrebonne Parish, about 30 miles south-southwest of Morgan City, the hurricane center said.
