The Altai Mountains are a system of ridges located on the territory of several states of Eurasia - Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China. The Russian Altai Mountains, the highest part of Siberia, are located on the territory of two constituent entities of the country - the Republic of Altai and the Altai Territory. The northern neighbor of the mountainous region is the Novosibirsk region, the eastern neighbor is Kemerovo. "Siberian Alps", "Russian Tibet" - this is the name of this amazing place, attracting with its pristine beauty, power and grandeur. Porous mountain rivers, crystal clear lakes, seething waterfalls, endless coniferous forests and alpine meadows - the generosity of Altai nature fascinates and conquers forever. A vast area of the region, which includes the Ukok plateau, the Katunsky and Altai reserves, Lake Teletskoye and Mount Belukha, is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List under the name "Altai-Golden Mountains"
Tourism in the Altai Republic is one of the main sectors of the region's economy, as well as an important source of income. Up to 1 million tourists come to Altai annually. Among the active types of recreation, the largest volume is occupied by summer ecological, cultural and educational trips and excursions on automobile, foot, horse, water, mountaineering, hunting, fishing, speleological and other routes with visits to natural and cultural historical sites and territories.
There are a large number of remarkable natural objects on the territory of the republic. The most popular among tourists is Lake Teletskoye, on the shores of which there are dozens of boarding houses, tourist centers and campgrounds.
Here are the best fishing spots, walking, horseback riding, water and bus excursions. The Karakol Lakes Cascade in the Chemal region is a unique nature reserve. The water in each of the seven lakes of the cascade differs in color and chemical composition.
The chain of Shavlinsky lakes in the upper reaches of the Shavla River is the goal of hiking and horseback riding routes along the picturesque foothills of the Severo-Chuisky ridge.
Mount Belukha (4506 m), the highest point of the republic and the whole of Siberia, is located on the territory of the Ust-Koksinsky district.

The warmest and most visited region in Gorny Altai is Chemalsky. There is a mild climate, early spring and late autumn. In late September, it can be +29 ° C in the afternoon, after sunset - +8 ° C. The average annual temperature is + 4.4 ° C.
