There are 2 main reasons to invest into a set of fully master worked armor as soon as possible. The first reason is very simple, mods. Mods are insanely powerful in all aspects of the game from PvE to PvP. The problem is, we are very limited in how many mods we can use unless we invest upgrade materials into upgrading our armor. The second reason is reducing your ability cooldowns by increasing our attribute stats. Abilities are a huge part of increasing your lethality and survivability in all game modes. If we can use them more often, we instantly become more powerful. These may seem like simple concepts, but they increase your survivability and overall power massively. I would consider these to be the biggest single upgrades in destiny 2.
