This month, we're shining our Alumni Spotlight on New York City Ballet Soloist, KJ Takahashi, who began his SAB training in 2016, became an apprentice with the Company in 2019, became a member of the corps de ballet in August 2021, and was promoted to soloist in April 2023. Watch as he shares what it was like to train with legendary SAB faculty member Andrei Kramarevsky, his favorite Workshop Performance memories, as well as his hopes for inspiring more dancers of Asian heritage to pursue careers in classical ballet.
Known for his athleticism and invigorating energy on stage, Mr. Takahashi has performed featured roles in a variety of ballets, including George Balanchine's BOURÉE FANTASQUE, "Emeralds" from JEWELS, and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (Puck.) He's also danced featured roles in Alexei Ratmansky's CONCERTO DSCH, Justin Peck's PARTITA, and THE TIMES ARE RACING, and Jerome Robbins' THE FOUR SEASONS. Be sure to look for him onstage later this month as NYCB kicks off its fall season.
