This video is intended for nurses, lab technicians and other clinical staff, and provides simple step-by-step instructions for using Copan’s ESwab™ for nasal swab sample collection for MRSA testing.
Specimen collection should be performed by health care personnel who have completed training and demonstrated competency.
Always read the manufacturer’s package insert for specific instruction regarding specimen collection and transport for the type of test kit being used.
For best results, follow steps outlined in this video and briefly summarized here:
• Put on gloves
• Open the peel pouch
• Place the white swab into one of the patient’s nostrils. Rotate 5 times, pressing lightly against the inside of the nose to collect the nasal sample.
• Repeat the process in the second nostril with the same white swab.
• Open the ESwab tube, and place the white swab into the liquid.
• Break the swab shaft off at the pink pre-molded breakpoint, leaving the bottom half of the swab in the tube and recap the Eswab tube.
• Dispose of the top of the swab stick in a regular trash can.
• Apply the patient identification label.
ESwab™ simplifies and streamlines collection by maintaining viability of aerobic, anaerobic and fastidious bacteria for up to 48 hours at refrigerator and room temperature, allowing for multiple tests from one sample and better pathogen recovery.
