Copan Colibrí™ Receives Third FDA Clearance for Automated Microbiology Workup
Copan Diagnostics has announced that its innovative pre-analytical processor, the Colibrí™system, has received its third FDA 510(k) clearance.
This clearance recognizes the Colibrí's ability to integrate with Beckman Coulter's MicroScan for automated AST. The Colibrí™ automates the preparation of microbial suspensions at a known concentration for MicroScan's widely used AST analysis.
This makes the Colibrí™ the first automated instrument capable of simultaneously preparing MALDI-TOF ID targets and AST suspensions. This clearance builds on previous FDA clearances for the Colibrí™ to work with MALDI-TOF mass spec instruments and bioMérieux VITEK® 2 AST system.
By automating specimen preparation and integration with leading downstream analysis platforms, the Colibrí™ significantly streamlines workflow and reduces hands-on time in the microbiology laboratory.
