Arc furnace Math:
On the internal market 1 mineral = 1.3 EC
1.25 minerals = 1.625 energy
Stage 1 = 20 ec upkeep
1 body = 1.25 minerals (Assumes no buffs to mining station output, like the techs or without astro mining)
-~12 systems to break even on the monthly upkeep
HOWEVER, you can only buy 42 minerals a month before price increases, so if you're at this, need more minerals, but don't want to work mineral jobs, it could be worth with less systems.
Other calculations:
Stage 2:
2 * 1.5 = 3 per system
3 minerals = 3.9 EC
40 upkeep
40 / 3.9 = 10.2564 systems
Stage 3:
Minerals: 3 * 1.75 = 5.25 per system
-Alloys: 1 * 1.75 = 1.75 per system
-5.25 minerals = 1.3 * 5.25 = 6.825 EC
1.75 alloys = 5.2 * 1.75 = 9.1 EC
Total = 9.1 + 6.825 = 15.925 EC per system
80 upkeep
80 / 15.925 = 5.0235 systems
Stage 4:
Minerals: 3 * 2 = 6 per system
Alloys: 2 * 2 = 4 per system
6 minerals = 1.3 * 6 = 7.8 EC
-2 alloys = 5.2 * 2 = 10.4 EC
Total = 7.8 + 10.4 = 18.2 EC per system
100 upkeep
-100 / 18.2 = 5.4945 systems
Dyson swarm math (for energy):
Stage 1:
○ Need to beat -5 alloy upkeep which is 5*5.2 = 26 EC upkeep
○ 26 / 5 = 5.2 output minimum needed to keep up with upkeep (hard to find)
Stage 2:
10 alloy upkeep 10 * 5.2 = 52 EC upkeep
52 / 15 = 3.4667 output minimum needed to keep up with upkeep (more reasonable)
Stage 3:
20 alloy upkeep 20 *5.2 = 104 EC upkeep
104 / 30 = 3.4667 value is same as stage 2.
