ONCE TWICE MELODY - BEACH HOUSE
Happy birthday to a very special album which turns 1 today! I’ve had so many wonderful and cherished memories with it as the soundtrack, and every song off it means something to me. For being Beach House’s most ambitious project it somehow remains remarkably consistent across its sprawling 85 minute runtime of 18 tracks, and doesn’t feel repetitive once, with the duo really firing on all cylinders and going beyond their comfort zone, not just sonically but also emotionally. Its rollout was also super intriguing and fun releasing the album in four chapters monthly. I can’t recommend it enough if you’ve never heard any of it before. I’ve had multiple ideas for visuals I wanted to make for this album, but none have ever materialised aside from this one which I’ve been working on for the greater half of a year. Once Twice Melody’s opening moments contains one of the most dazzling and gorgeous passages of music I’ve heard, and it is what I imagine entering heaven’s gates must sound like when they open. If they don’t sound like that come to find, I’m saying, take me to hell instead I don’t want to go to heaven. There’s these flashing bursts of colour within the instrumentation carrying an ambience that feels like I’m entering a rainbow rainforest, all the while under a super starry summer sky.
