Collecting wild roaming sheep in Iceland
Every September, Icelandic sheep are brought back from the hills and mountains to be returned to their owners. This gathering usually takes a day and local people use this opportunity to reconnect, maybe have a drink or two and even sing a song.
Icewear visited one of these "Réttir" to see these wonderful animals that have been on the island since the first settlers. Icelandic sheep have fully adapted themselves to the extreme weather conditions and have a unique double layered fur, consisting of long water repellant hairs (about 21cm) and short (about 6cm) curly hair which traps heat.
