A little over a month has passed since the Azerbaijani armed forces began their so-called "anti-terrorist operations," which followed a months-long blockade of the Republic of Artsakh.
On September 19, the Azerbaijani army, approximately 60,000 strong, launched an offensive toward the city of Stepanakert. During that day, artillery and rocket fire destroyed military and civilian targets in the unrecognized republic. On September 20, a ceasefire was brokered by the Russian peacekeeping contingent, marking the beginning of the exodus of the Armenian population from Artsakh.
Over the next two weeks, more than 100,000 people left the republic. This represents almost the entire population of Artsakh.
All these people lost their homes and were forced to emigrate: most to Armenia, and some to Russia.
Our story is about this tragedy, what preceded it, and the people who came to the aid of the displaced persons from Artsakh.
We spoke with the heads of charitable organizations, Armenian politicians and activists, and relocated Armenians from Russia who, having survived their own tragedy, did not remain indifferent to this new historical challenge facing the Armenian people.
