NASA established the Sustainable Flight National Partnership (SFNP) to mature a suite of the most promising yet high-risk advanced airliner technologies and more efficient operational methods within the national airspace.

Throughout the 2020s, technical maturation and demonstration projects occurred to enable a significant impact in the 2030s, focusing on reducing fuel consumption and emissions. SFNP aimed to accelerate revolutionary change to meet U.S. and international goals for net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 through innovative aircraft and propulsion technologies, improved system operational efficiency, support for the transition to sustainable aviation fuels, and reduction of non-carbon impacts like persistent contrails/aviation-induced cloudiness.

NASA Project Managers leading the SFNP technology and operational efficiency demonstrations discussed their technical focus and approaches, emphasizing the importance of their extensive partnerships with the U.S. aviation community.
