No one uses paper anymore, right? Well, despite a shift towards paperless offices, there are still many out there that have stacks of it hanging about.
You might be given a hard copy of some data without access to the underlying file.
How do you digitise it?
You could just manually type it into an Excel worksheet, but that is potentially very time-consuming.
Instead, take a photo or scan it and save the file on your computer. Then, carry out the following:
1️⃣ On the 'Data' tab, go to 'From Picture' > 'Picture From File'.
2️⃣ Locate your file and double-click on it.
3️⃣ Wait for the data to be read, and then check any values flagged up as a 'Low Confidence Cell'.
4️⃣ Select any erroneous cell to modify its value, make the change, and then click 'Accept'.
5️⃣ After you're finished making changes, click 'Insert Data'.
6️⃣ If you have any remaining flagged cells, a popup box alerts you to review them. Providing you're satisfied, click 'Insert Anyway' to dump the data into the worksheet.
Data from Picture is not perfect, but it's certainly a useful feature.
How well it interprets your image depends on its quality. If taking a photo, consider the lighting, angle, and distance for maximum clarity.
