I had a chance for a (cold and windy!) range visit to try out a couple of new guns I recently picked up. First up was the Mark XIX Desert Eagle in brushed chrome. I tried 180 grain and 240 grain PMC Bronze factory ammunition, as well as two handholds using 240 grain Hornady XTP hollowpoints, one with 23.5 grains of H110 powder and one with 24.0. All loads worked fine, and the handloaded rounds gave velocities of around 1220 fps for the 23.5 grain load and 1275 fps for the 24.0 load.
I finished off with a Boito Model 680 12 gauge Coach Gun with 14” barrel, using Winchester 12-pellet magnum buckshot. It’d been a while since I fired a shotgun so the first shot recoil surprised me! Once I was ready for it, though, subsequent rounds were quite manageable.
