My name is Jeff Gray. On 5/7/24 I visited New Tampa Community Park to peacefully and politely exercise my right to free speech on a traditional public forum. I was standing on a public sidewalk on the grounds of New Tampa Community Park peacefully spreading the message of God Bless The Homeless Veterans to people coming and going from the park. Public Parks and public sidewalks have long been recognized as traditional public forums for the expression of free speech. The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation’s official website describes The New Tampa Community Park and its recreation center as a natural gathering place for the community. At all times while I was on public park property I was peacefully and politely engaged in constitutionally protected free speech. I violated no park policies and I violated no law laws.
However, Site Supervisor Linda Hall called the Tampa Police Department and had me trespassed under threat of arrest for 180 days because she arbitrarily decided that my free speech was inappropriate.
I am requesting that the unjustified and unconstitutional trespass warning against me to be immediately and fully rescinded. I am also submitting an official complaint against Linda Hall for her actions resulting in my trespass.
I patiently await your response to both my request to rescind the trespass and for my complaint against Linda Hall.
