This short story is about the author's car disappearing from outside a shop and taking a dip in the river - without being aided by humans. It's almost a film: Herbie takes the Plunge! There are other observations throughout the book about travelling the world in an international sales role, all told with the dry humour of many authors who recount the incredulous events throughout their careers.
Travel back in time with Ian, to the 1970s, and trace the changes in technologies and techniques to the end of the last decade.
