We first met talented young drill-fusion artist Macelino on a #MakingTracks project in partnership with the Prince’s Trust in London – subsequently he joined our ‘Young Producers’ scheme and is now one of our Emerging Artists. Hear how making music has developed his self-confidence, wellbeing and aspirations to help others in turn.
The Irene Taylor Trust has been running ‘Music in Prisons’ projects since 1995 and has seen how creative interventions help people to develop transferable skills and social capital; in 2012 we created the ‘Making Tracks’ programme to bring these same benefits to young people in the community. We celebrated a decade of this work in the community in 2022 with a special collaborative project and performance at Rich Mix, bringing former prisoner musicians from ‘Sounding Out’, which is also marking its 10th anniversary, together with young artists from ‘Making Tracks’.
