John Deere 550 Round Baler Review
The John Deere 550 baler was one of the best balers in its class in the 2000s. Its unique feature is that it's ideal for dry straw or hay. Where a roller baler would slip and fluff the outer layer of the bale, the John Deere baler packs the material tightly from the base by compressing the hay with belts until the bale is formed. It forms bales 1.2 meters wide, 0.3 to 1.8 meters high, and weighing up to 450 kg. The baler was equipped with additional options: a wide pickup, automatic wrapping, and net wrapping. The pickup is simple, reliable, and easy to operate, with a minimum of bells and whistles and a necessary set of options: adjustable diameter, chamber locks, double-string wrapping, a rake on the chamber, and a rake extension on the pickup.
