How a Loofah Plant Becomes a Sponge
In this video, we show how we grow and process loofah (luffa) gourds into natural sponges from start to finish. From growing the vines in our northern climate Zone 3 garden to harvesting, peeling, and cleaning the finished loofah sponge, this is our full process.
Loofahs, also known as luffas, have been grown for centuries as both an edible plant and a natural scrub sponge. One of the best parts is that these homegrown sponges are completely biodegradable and add zero microplastics to the environment.
It’s pretty amazing being able to tell people that even here in Northern Ontario / Zone 3, we can grow our own loofah sponges right in the garden.
