To make Gmail organize itself automatically so it's easy to find important emails, mute notifications on stuff like promotions or coupon codes, and still keep everything easy and accessible to find, what you need to do is pull up Gmail in Google Chrome or another compatible web browser, either on your computer or your phone.
colored labeled appears on each email in your inbox, making it easier to find similar ones fast.
“Filter messages like this.” That brings up a box where you can filter by sender, size, or keywords. Usually, filtering by the sending address works best.
First, “Apply the label.”
Second, “Also apply filter to matching conversations,” which moves all existing emails into that folder too.
Third, “Skip the inbox (Archive it).” This one hides emails from your main inbox so you won’t get notifications — great for things like promotions or coupon codes that you only want to reference when needed.
At the top of the list, there’s a square box that selects all messages in that label — perfect for bulk deleting. If you go back to your main inbox, you’ll see the colored labels now showing next to each relevant email, making everything easier to recognize.
If you did choose the archive option, here’s what that looks like: an email from the same company but from a different address for updates. I don’t need notifications for these, so I’ll archive them. You’ll see them show up in the label folder but disappear from the inbox. If you ever delete the label folder, you can still find archived emails by typing “in:archive” into Gmail’s search bar.
