Over the decades, the US Navy has made significant investments in nuclear technology, resulting in an entirely nuclear-powered fleet. Building conventional submarines would require additional infrastructure and resources that are not readily available, complicating an already strained industrial base. Then, conventional submarines are generally more suited for coastal operations, where they can take advantage of nearby bases for resupply and maintenance.
