Democracy in Florida: A Work in Progress
Starting in Spanish colonial Florida, Dr. Steve Noll looked at how the actions of political leaders and grass-roots activists have worked to increase the ideas and notions of democracy, a continuing process. Dr. Noll examined the slow growth of democracy in Florida, as individuals and groups fought (and are still fighting) to be included in the body politic.
Dr. Noll's presentation “Democracy in Florida: A Work in Progress” is a companion program to the “Voices and Votes: Alachua County” exhibit and the Smithsonian traveling exhibit - “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America,’ which was on display at the Matheson this summer.
