I cannot stress this enough! Many signing agents neglect learning their state notary law, especially in states (like Texas) where you are not required to take a class and pass a notary exam. Notarizing a document is more than just "signing and stamping" it! And if you improperly notarize a document you could personally face civil and criminal charges!

It is YOUR job to know and follow the notary law for your state. Title companies, Signing companies and lenders may even (knowingly or unknowingly) ask you to break the law. But following their requests is no defense! You could still personally face penalties for breaking the law even if you do it at the direct request of the company that hired you!
